I will be honest, I have been slightly (emphasis on slightly) disappointed with the Bucks’ acquisition of Nikola Mirotic. Prior to this game, he was not shooting the ball well at all. It will always be a good trade because the Bucks traded a whole lot of nothing (Thon, Jason Smith, Stanley Johnson) for a whole lot of something, but for it to be a great trade, Mirotic has to show something other than volume-chucking threes that never go in and being a sieve on defense (not that I care about defense especially).
I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because the Bucks are a new situation for him and he needs time to adjust. In my own life, if I’m thrust unexpectedly into a new situation, I will do one of a few things:
-Shut down and never say anything
-Find the closest bathroom and hide in it
-Look at my phone
-Tears
I certainly am never productive or sociable in new situations, so why should I expect Mirotic to just arrive in Milwaukee’s “everybody eats, but not as much as they want” offensive scheme and immediately fit in? That’s unreasonable of me. However, if he still can’t shoot threes by the time the playoffs roll around, I will be upset. Upset enough to dial up Bobby Portis and see if his fist-throwing services are available for hire.
