I haven’t had a chance to congratulate Joe Harris on his exciting three-point contest victory during All-Star weekend. He’s been too busy enjoying the perks of being a three-point champion (hot women, international fame, money, etc.) to have a performance worthy of my channel. And now it’s been so long, I can’t really remember the details of his victory. All I can remember from the event is Mark Price bring dragged out of his coffin to brick some threes in some sort of pre-contest festivity. We’re going to assume, though, that Harris hit a lot of threes, enough to be crowned winner. So congratulations, Joe! I’ve always believed in you, except when you sucked for the Cavaliers and then dropped out of the league.
Harris, somewhat befitting a three-point champion, is shooting 47 percent from deep this season. His attempts aren’t where they should be, honestly, for a player of his shooting caliber, but it’s not like he’s shooting one a game to get that number. With lots of players shooting what seems like a three per minute, Harris shooting only a three per six minutes seems like a flaw with the Nets gameplan. They already run him off screens all the time, so I think the next step is for him to work out with James Harden to learn the art of traveling while doing a stepback. That way, if he wants to shoot a three, he can shoot a three. He doesn’t have to rely on other players to get open.
But the offseason won’t be here for a while, so in the meantime, he can work on tightening up his shot selection so he can end the season at over 50 percent from downtown. It’ll be tough, but all he has to do is hit his next 25 triple tries. And then once he’s done that, he’ll only have to hit half of them to maintain his percentage. Easy. He’s probably made 25 in a row a bunch of times in the gym, and what’s an NBA game but an empty gym with 9 other dudes running around in it?
