Collin Sexton in March: 23/3/3 on 52% shooting and 47% from three.
Just think about that for a moment. For a guy who, at the beginning of the season, was drawing ire from his teammates (mostly J.R. Smith and Rodney Hood probably) for “not knowing how to play basketball”, those are sick numbers. They’re sick numbers even for somebody who does know how to play basketball. The only bad thing you could say about those numbers is that they are indicative of a player whose only skill is scoring.
Can Sexton still be the point guard of the future for the Cavs if he never develops his court vision and passing ability past what is right now or perhaps slight beyond? I would usually be inclined to say “no”, but if he can keep up scoring numbers even remotely close to what he’s doing in March, I would give him a conditional “yes” as long as he has teammates who can take over ball-distrubtion duties so that all he has to do is score.
I bet Kevin Love would love (heh) to be the point guard for the Cavs. They should try it and move Sexton to shooting guard so all he has to worry about is scoring. Gotta do something to make the end of the season watchable, right?
