OFFICIAL DTB DISCLAIMER: There are no dunks in this video. In a past life, the only thing Jerami Grant was good for was a couple highlight-reel dunks per week. The promise of major dunkage is still, for me and my ever-expanding NBA highlights empire, one of the main things that attracts me to him and makes me want to create highlight videos for him. I am a dunk junkie. A dunkie, if you will.
However, now that Grant has developed himself into a credible scorer outside of roof-raising slam dunkeroonis, you get a different sort of entertainment while watching his videos. It’s entertainment born of the joy you get when you know you’re watching an NBA player develop from a relatively unskilled athletic specimen to a useful, talented, versatile player who most teams would love to have in their starting lineup. I challenge you to watch this video and not be overcome by a sense of contentment, a sense of rightness regarding Grant’s transformation as a player.
This transformation started last season and it’s bearing fruit this season. It happened quickly enough where I’m still having trouble adjusting my expectations for him. Five three-pointers in a game is no longer an unexpected thing, something that looks like an error from the scorer’s table. That’s just what he is now. And that’s cool.
