Thomas Bryant, as of this writing, is leading the league in field goal percentage on two-point shots. He’s at 67.5 percent, slightly ahead of Rudy Gobert, who is at 67 percent. That’s pretty good! Gobert is widely known for his ability to dunk all sorts of things that come near him in the paint, basketballs, babies, stray giveaway t-shirts with the parachutes still attached, Ricky Rubios, he dunks it all. Bryant, on the other hand, does a lot of dunking, but that’s not the ONLY thing he does. He has range on his jumper, and while he’s stepped out to take some threes this season, he also takes some midrangers. Even a few of those has the potential to tank his percentages, so he keeps at a minimum, but still. Has Gobert even shot a jumper this year?
As far as categories go, two-point field goal percentage isn’t very prestigious, compared to something like three-point field goal percentage. So if Bryant wants to get recognition for his surprisingly good (Lakers messed up again LeBron is looking at him with serious jealously) play this season, it’ll have to come from other places.
Which is why I should remind you all of the award I created for him this season, the PWMLTSOIRTACOP award. If you don’t remember from my original announcement, that stands for”Player Who’s Most Likely To Spaz Out In Reaction To A Call Or Play”. The award itself is pronounced “Paw-malt-soy-rata-cop”, in case one of the award-giver-outers for the upcoming NBA awards show wants to get practicing.
