The Magic made the playoffs! And they’re not the 8th seed! It’s been a long time coming. The Dwightmare really set the franchise back like a million years apparently, because the last time they made the playoffs was with Dwight Howard on the roster, his last year with them, the 2011-12 season. How many teams has that dude been on since then? I can think of five, but there may be more, because who knows how often he’s jetted off to China for a few games here and there. And how many centers have the Magic cycled through since then? That question is actually way easier to answer, because it’s only been Nikola Vucevic. Huh.
Anyway, I seriously assumed that the Magic were somehow legitimately cursed and were never going to make the playoffs again. Does Dwight have that power, to curse a whole franchise forever? I don’t think so, but I bet one of his baby mamas is a voodoo priestess or something similar, and she would definitely have that kind of power. If there was indeed a curse, it’s somehow been lifted, as the Magic are OFFICIALLY the 7th seed in the Eastern conference, and I just looked at the calendar and there’s apparently no more games left in the regular season.
This game between the Magic and the Hornets had some serious playoff seeding/making implications, so serious that ESPN decided to show it. Neither team had had a true nationally televised game this season; now they were the most sought-after commodity in the NBA. Okay, that’s pushing it, but at least it was a good game. Terrence Ross will live forever in the hearts of Magic fans for his heroic performance, his career-high (presumably, because I can’t think of even ONE game where he has scored more) 35 points to dominate Charlotte into submission being one of the highlights of the year. Or something.
