My guess is that Marcus Morris played some very good defense this game. I watched this one through three quarters (enough to see the Pacers get totally shut down in the third quarter), but I wasn’t watching Morris’ defensive play specifically because I don’t care about defense. However, given the Celtics’ strong defense, it only makes sense to think that Morris was partially responsible for it.
Wouldn’t it be cool if I could make, like, defensive highlights of players? I think it would be cool, however, I simply don’t know how I would do such a thing. Defense doesn’t show up in the box score unless it’s a concrete act like a steal or a block. And a player playing good defense isn’t even going to necessarily be defending the ball-handler, so showing clips of their defense could get confusing since you wouldn’t know what you’re supposed to be looking for. This is not an issue I have to address when making scoring-themed highlights; everybody watching knows that the player in question will eventually receive the ball and score it.
Plus, to find out when a player is playing defense, I would have to watch, with a critical eye, every single possession that they’re in the game. That’s way too much work. I do enough work just getting all the clips of scoring plays. There is no parallel universe, no alternate timeline, where I have the patience for that. That’s how unreasonable it is. So neither Morris, nor any other Celtics player, is going to get a “defensive highlights” video tonight or any night. The D in DTB doesn’t stand for defense.
