Everyone calm down. It’s easy to become overexcited in the face of a player hitting his first NBA shots, but let’s remember that Javonte Green isn’t a “real” rookie. He’s one of those old (in this case, 26, practically near retirement age) rookies who spent a couple years floating around Europe before an NBA team took notice. Kind of like Brad Wanamaker, except not quite as old nor as lumpy-faced. Wanamaker should be the measuring stick for how hyped you get for Green. If you are, for some unfathomable but probably perverted reason, really hyped for Wanamaker, by all means, get really hyped for Green. Otherwise, chill out and wait until Tacko Fall puts up a double-double before freaking out.
Prior to this game, my intel on Green was really limited. Like, it consisted of only one tidbit of information:
-Plays for the Celtics
And that was it. I didn’t know his position, his play style, his appearance, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just a name attached to the Celtics who I thought wasn’t even going to make the team. But he did, and now he’s scoring double digits in real NBA games against real NBA players who may or not be playing real NBA defense.
Also, reading his Wikipedia page, apparently he’s a dual citizen, with bonus citizenship in Montenegro? This guy gets more enigmatic by the minute, how does a random American baller decide to acquire citizenship in a random European country and then play for their national team? I bet he had sweet chemistry with Nikola Vucevic.
