It’s sad to say, but I’m not really #hypedforgaryharris anymore. How can I be expected to be hyped for a guy averaging 10 points per game on 40 percent shooting when I’ve seen what he can really do in seasons past? For a refresher, what he was doing a few years ago was being one of the most efficient players in the league as a 6-4 shooting guard while scoring 15 points per game. That was when being #hypedforgaryharris was something that came naturally, as a clear result of his exciting play.
Now, he’s just another mildly disappointing Nuggets player this year. They’re still winning all their games (don’t pay attention to this one, though), but it seems like all their players are performing slightly below expectations. Harris, Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Paul Millsap, Monte Morris (this one really hurts, what happened to this guy), if all those guys got better this year Denver would be the favorite to win the title probably.
I’m just going to assume, in the absence of other reasons, that Harris is recovering from some injury or something and that is the reason he’s not his usual self. Nuggets fans can probably tell me the real reason, but if it involves him and Nikola Jokic having a secret beef that is slowly spilling out onto the court, I don’t want to hear it.
Perhaps this game will be the game to get him back on track, and I can resume production on my mothballed line of #hypedforgaryharris merchandise. 25 points is way more points than he had scored in any other game this season, a total reminiscent of his glory days. Truly, hype for Gary Harris is simmering within me… extinguished… but not forgotten.
