There are some players who are destined to be forgotten as soon as they stop playing. Players like Carmelo Anthony. That dude scored a ton of points and left no impact on anyone’s minds. Another example: Larry Sanders. There was once a ton of hype for him, but once he marijuanaed himself out of the league, no one cares at all about his artisanal skateboards or whatever. Solomon Hill is not one of those players. That is because people have already forgotten about him, and he’s still definitely playing.
Evidence of him playing: this highlight video purporting to show him scoring 22 points tonight. Not last year, not five years ago, tonight. 22 points. Can you believe it?
I won’t judge you if you forgot that Hill was still in the league. Not everyone can have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of current NBA players. Most people have to pick and choose who to remember because their brains aren’t big enough (unlike mine, which can hold all current NBA players AND all Pop-Tart flavors, past and present). A chubby-looking 28-year-old role-player small forward on the Grizzlies who barely ever scores is not going to be high on the priority list of players to remember.
But here he is. Scoring 22 points, by far a season-high, oh, and did I mention that this was totally a REVENGE GAME? Hill got his start in Indiana, playing his first three years there, but I don’t expect you to remember that either. That’s ancient history now.
