Taurean Prince was a pretty good player the last two years. Good enough where there were points where I was getting tired of making vids for all the time, which is a sure sign that a player is playing at a high level. He wasn’t quite as good in his third year with the Hawks as the second, but he will still a totally solid role-player. So what happened to him in Brooklyn?
A quick look at the stats tell us that he can’t make stuff around the rim as well as he used to. Under 50 percent when you’re right next to the basket is pretty bad unless you’re a total midget (and even then, J.J. Barea manages that easily and he can’t touch the net even with the aid of a ladder), and Prince is way under that mark this year. But all that tells us is that he sucks. It doesn’t tell us WHY he sucks.
I think I just accidentally discovered a very profound truism about stats.
Since I don’t watch tons of Nets games (I’m still boycotting the Kyrie Irving acquisition), we’re just going to leave it at that. Congrats to him on scoring 21 points and then stopping halfway through the third quarter so that the Thunder could come all the way back and then win in overtime. Another bucket would’ve been helpful, but with Prince this year, you take what you get.
