Michael Carter-Williams, by my estimation, is far enough along in his career for him to be eligible to have “vintage” performances. Performances that hearken back to his earlier, more productive days. Normally such designations are reserved for players a little longer in the tooth, but it seems clear that MCW is on the downswing of his career. He might be trending up a little bit at the moment (which is frickin’ awesome, screw off Markelle Fultz the real redemption tour is happening right in front of your face), but it is highly unlikely that he ever puts up numbers like he did in Philly.
This game definitely qualifies as “vintage” Carter-Williams. 15 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, that’s the kind of near-triple-double that he was doing all the time with the 76ers. I’m not going to check, but I bet he had that exact statline at least five times (if not a lot more) in his first few years in the league. We could even start calling the 15/8/7 statline an “MCW”.
Okay, fine, since you guys were so insistent I DID check, and it turns out that this is the first time in his career that he’s had 15/8/7. But he totally did have a 15/9/7 game with the Bucks. So there.
