I’ve lost track: has the roster for the three-point shootout been finalized yet? I know some dudes have definitely been OFFICIALLY confirmed for the contest, but it doesn’t seem like enough dudes have been named to round out the roster. Unless I haven’t been paying attention and all the names have been announced while I’m over here playing with my belly button or whatever.
If there’s still spots left, that means there’s still time for the NBA to rectify the grievous and flagrant injustice that they inflicted upon Davis Bertans last year. If you’ll go on a trip down memory lane with me, you’ll remember that Bertans was just as accurate a three-point shooter last year as he is this year. However, his role on the Spurs was small, and so his raw total of three-point makes wasn’t gaudy enough to get him to the contest. That’s what the “official” narrative would have you believe, anyway. Bias against Latvians was also a major factor.
But it might not be too late! Bertans has definitely earned a spot in the contest this season, and I for one am salivating at the thought of watching him shoot 25 three-pointers in rapid succession with no breaks. If he again is not invited, then we’ll know for sure that Adam Silver hates not only the people of Latvia and the country of Latvia itself, but also the proud, strong ethos that makes Latvia one of the top three Baltic states in the entire world.
I would suggest that the NBA institute fan voting for the three-point contest, but you know that would go horribly wrong. Hassan Whiteside vs. Michael Carter-Williams final round, anybody?
