Derrick Jones Jr. is in the dunk contest again. This seems like a good decision by the NBA, to put one of the better in-game dunkers in a contest to showcase his dunking ability.
Putting Pat Connaughton in the contest as well is probably less of a good decision. Better than the time they were going to have Brandon Jennings (who only dunked like three times in a Bucks jersey, who thankfully dropped out due to “injury”), but still not very good. All he can do is putbacks! Are they supposed to trot Giannis out there to miss free throws for him to slam back through?
Last time Jones was in the dunk-off, he ended up losing to Glenn Robinson Jr., who has never performed a sick in-game dunk in his entire NBA career. I don’t know what happened that caused the defeat, because I don’t care about the dunk contest at all (in-game dunks are a million times better, no, make that a billion), but he cannot let that happen again. Save all the best dunks for the final. Everything has to involve taking off from the free-throw line. No dunks where he’s not jumping from 15 feet out to slam it.
Easy.
