Landry “Shamwow” Shamet was not at all “Shamwow” in the first half of this game. He had three points and one assist when the buzzer sounded at the end of the second quarter. That’s not way out of line with his season production (he’s averaging 10 PPG per game and 2 APG per game on the season, so you would expect five points and an assist from him at halftime), but it makes his nineteen-point, five-assist second half seem totally bonkers in comparison.
It finally feels like Shamet is starting to pull it together after a disappointingly slow start to the season. He’s scored in double digits ten out of his last eleven games. J.J. Redick lite was in danger of being downgraded to J.J. Redick zero-calorie version, but that downgrade has been indefinitely postponed. Doc Rivers would obviously prefer to have the full-calorie J.J. Redick version that Shamet has the potential to be, but he’s not quite there yet. Give it a couple years.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch that Shamwow! infomercial with that weird dude in it who later got arrested for some reason. And then I’ll watch that Slap-Chop infomercial too. I love funny infomercials.
