Right now, Juan Hernangomez is averaging 15.5 PPG per game in his 4-game stint with the Timberwolves, which is higher than ANY individual game he had with the Nuggets this season. He is being unleashed right before our eyes, this is what we’ve all been waiting for. Paul Millsap cannot hold him down anymore.
The numbers paint a clear and encouraging picture: he has scored 14, 15, 16, and now 17 points in consecutive games since getting traded. It doesn’t take a math whiz to figure out what’s going on here: Hernangomez is increasing his output by 1 point per game, every game. Literally every single game he’s getting better. There are only, like, 25-ish more Timberwolves games on the schedule, so we’re not going to see any 50-burgers out of him, but when you can count on his scoring every game, I’m seeing some wins in Minnesota’s future. Which is good, because aside from that crazy win against the Clippers, I’m not seeing many wins in Minnesota’s past.
I doubt that even the Timberwolves expected Hernangomez to be this productive, but they didn’t know that former ironman Karl-Anthony Towns would turn into a walking injury report. There is a serious lack of playable bigs on the roster, but Hernangomez is showing that if you just plop him out there on the court (*plop*), he can do all the things you want a bigman to do. But mostly just shoot a whole bunch of threes. Him and Naz Reid are the new splash brothers, calling it now.
