I’m pretty sure that a dunkilation (that’s “dunk compilation” for you ignorami out there) is coming at the end of the season for Zion Williamson. I don’t know what would have to happen for me not to make such a vid, Williamson would have to die probably, either that or I would have to die (in which case no dunkilations at all would be forthcoming). Even if he got a season-ending injury right this second, like if he tore his ACL stumbling to the kitchen for a 2:00 AM snack, he’s got enough powerful whamblams to make a compelling video.
What I’m less sure about are my tentative plans to make a free-throwilation for him as well. Here’s the thing: everyone knows he can dunk. Seeing him dunk, while fun in a way, is not unexpected. What’s still a big question mark for his career is whether he can consistently hit free-throws. And it’s going to be a big part of his game in any case; he’s already got more points this season from the charity stripe (70) than he does from dunks (66, unless he had a three-point dunk while I wasn’t paying attention).
A video showing all his made free-throws in sequential order, tightly edited, would be an aesthetic viewing experience, in my opinion. We would get to see the evolution, or lack of evolution, of his free-throw form. Armchair shot doctors would get tons of footage to base their opinions on. Mark Price could watch it while wondering why he could never fix Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s form. There are a lot of compelling reasons to make the vid.
I think I’m going to do it. You can call the cops if you want, but they’re not going to arrest me just because I want to make a video showing all the free throws Williamson made in a season.
