Dillon Brooks, early this month, got a three-year, 35 million dollar contract extension with the ‘Zlies. He “got the bag”, to use the parlance of our times. But before the ink was even try on the contract, Brooks started sucking. Big time.
Brooks is a scorer. He doesn’t do much on the court besides take (and before he started sucking, make) tough shots. It’s like he acquired the power of MarShon Brooks before he left the NBA again. He simply does not care about the quality of shots that he is taking, which is actually a good thing for a young team like Memphis, who are a bit lacking in pure shot creation.
He used to make those shots. Now he doesn’t, and it means that he’s pretty much not worth playing a lot of the time. And don’t think that just because he dropped 22 tonight, that he’s stopped sucking. He took 26 shots tonight to get these 22 points, double the shot attempts of anyone else on the team. A team, I might add, that’s starting to look a lot like the crazy G-League-riddled lineups that the ‘Zlies were trotting out around this time last year.
