It’s always exciting when I get to make a highlight video for a player whose existence is so cloaked in mystery that I don’t even know what they look like. I watch their first bucket with anticipation, for that gives me the chance to see them from the zoomed-out broadcast angle where their physical features are indistinct. That gives me a little teaser of what they might look like. I can get a good idea of things like skin tone and presence of facial hair from this.
Then, the broadcast finally zooms in on the player in question, and I get a full look at their face in all its beautiful details. The shape of the mouth, the prominence of the nose and ears, any body art or piercings, I can see it all. A name that I may have known for days or even weeks at that point finally has a face attached to it. And it’s exciting. It’s like unwrapping a present on Christmas morning having no idea what’s inside it.
That’s what I just experienced with Mychal Mulder. I knew he was a recent 10-day signing by the Warriors, but I had no other knowledge of him. Making this video was the first time I actually got to see him, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. His hairline is on point, his tattoos are tasteful, his jawbone is sharply angled at just the right camber, his eyes shimmer with the exuberance of a player getting to play in the NBA for the first time, and his muscles are of an appropriate size for his frame.
Overall, I give him a 10/10; would cast lustful gaze upon him to drink in his beauty for the first time again.
