Heat commentator Eric Reid loves telling people how many threes a certain player has made in a quarter, in a half, in a game, or in a season. That’s how he fills up time during the broadcast. It’s repetitive to the point of annoyance, but he’s not the main problem with the Heat broadcast. The main problem being that they got rid of Tony Fiorentino. You know how many times we could’ve heard him go “O-Oh man, huh-huh-huh” this season? Like a thousand, but this new color commentator hasn’t even done it one time that I’ve heard.
Anyway, thanks to Reid’s commitment, I am now aware that Kendrick Nunn has the Heat record for most threes in a season made by a rookie. The fact that the record was previously held by Mario Chalmers is a clear indicator that the record is not worth caring about, but there it is. Good job Nunn, I guess. And he’s got a lot of time to pad out the record so that no one else can get it. It was supposed to be Tyler Herro’s record, though.
The record I really care about is most midrange jumpers for a Heat rookie in a season. Nunn has made a lot of them, but he’s probably not even close to the record, because in the old days, midrange jumpers was what you took if you wanted to score. Everyone took them, they took a lot of them, it was a truly glorious era of NBA basketball. There’s probably some Heat rookie who made 300 or 400 of them, whereas Nunn has less than 100.
You wouldn’t know that he has so few from watching this vid, though. He was really stroking it with his jumper, the pointage might not be there, but this is one of the sicker Nunn highlight vids of the season. That pull-up jumper was pure.
