Avery Bradley’s primary offensive skill, which is to handle the ball, wait for a screen, and then pick-and-pop into a fifteen-to-twenty-two-foot jumpshot, is not seeing much use now that he’s on the Lakers and always sharing the court with a player who can make a legitimate claim at being top five in the NBA (one of either LeBron James, Anthony Davis, or Troy Daniels who they waived for some reason). There just isn’t much room for his own offensive creativity when the offensive creativity of the players he’s sharing the court with will more often result in a bucket.
Looking at Bradley’s shart (shot chart) this season is a bit depressing for that reason. His volume from the midrange is still high, but it’s not otherworldly high. It’s about half of what we saw from him last season, and about 1/4th of what we saw out of his middy jimmy game in, for example, the 2013-14 season. I still maintain that if you want the real Avery Bradley highlight video experience, you wouldn’t watch any of his videos from his Lakers tenure. You would seek out the videos from his 14-game tenure with the ‘Zlies last season. Or, if you could go further back, videos from his Celtics days.
Remember, when a midrange specialist gets forced into being a three-point specialist, God picks a random inhabitant at earth to afflict with a broken, falling-off toenail. And that random inhabitant happens to be right now. OH GOD WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS THING IT’S BARELY HAGNING ON BUT IT HURTS WHEN I PULL ON IT
