Michael Porter Jr. 15 Points Full Highlights (9/20/2020)

Usually, when a player scores illegitimate points, I become upset because it results in a highlight video that is built upon a foundation of lies. It’s even more upsetting when the illegitimate points are the difference-maker between “that’s not enough points for a DTB highlight video” and “that is indeed enough points for a DTB highlight video”.

For your edification, here are some scenarios which result in what I call “illegitimate points”:

-Unintentionally banked-in jumpers
-Shots goaltended by the defender even though they were never going to go in
-“Own goals” credited to the nearest offensive player
-Scoring on the final possession when nobody is playing any defense (if defenders are actually trying, the points are legitimate)
-Alley-oop passes that go in the hoop
-Shots that, if they had been reviewed, would have been overturned for any number of reasons

Michael Porter Jr.’s final field goal falls under that last category: I don’t know what the rules are for challenging plays, reviewing plays, and overturning plays, but if it could have been reviewed and overturned, it would have been. Offensive basket interference happens all the time without being called, but this instance was way more flagrant than usual.

Even worse, the extra field goal induced me to make this video (since thirteen points is clearly not enough for an MPJ highlight vid), so I feel like I’m doing a huge disservice to my scrubscribers. Then again, MPJ hits some nice shots in this game, so the disservice is not of the highest possible magnitude. I have disserviced my scrubscribers in much more heinous ways in the past. Like when I uploaded that Monsterezl Harrell highlight video where he scored 25 points, but 15 of the points were free throws, and he didn’t even dunk.
