With the way the Bulls got boomed in the first two games of the season, I was starting to have my doubts at to whether they’d win a game this season. They might not have egg-man as their coach anymore, but even without his malign presence causing everything to be roughly 50 percent worse than it should be, there’s not a whole lot going in Chicago in terms of having “winning” players.
But it turns out that if you just get to play the ‘Zards all the time, you can definitely win a whole bunch of games. The Bulls are totally spinning their wheels and doing nothing this season, but the ‘Zards are the epitome of futility right now. The Bulls have now improved to 2-3 after getting to play Washington twice in a row. I haven’t looked closely at their remaining schedule, but if present trends continue, they’re just going to get to keep playing that same team over and over until the season ends and they have the best record in the league. Because you know there’s no way that a team with a no-defense core of Bradley Beal (chucker), Russell Westbrook (hell-bent on acquiring triple-doubles to the detriment of his team), and Jerome Robinson (Clippers probably still wish they had him though) is ever going to win a game.
The other benefit of this ‘Zards-heavy schedule is it opens the door for an endless parade of Otto Porter revenge games. Porter, after a slow start, eventually had some nice years in Washington He had a decent game in the first meeting, but then they unceremoniously dumped him (and his huge contract, did you know he’s getting paid 28 million dollars this season holy moly jim-bob boly) for a poopoo platter of Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker. That’s the kind of trade that ignites a burning desire for revenge, and we saw in this game what that desire can manifest itself as:
28 points. On a whole bunch of jumpers.
My favorite kind of Otto-matic performance, personally. He has a really nice jumper, and he’s not afraid to let it fly from the midrange if he’s feeling it. I may be semi-retired, but if he continues putting up nice games with a nice amount of middy jimmies, than a midrange-ilation isn’t totally out of the question. Mostly out of the question, though. I can feel my offseason laziness already start to creep in, and we’re only a week into the season.
