Patty Mills 27 Points/8 Threes Full Highlights (1/5/2021)

Patty Mills just set a career high in three-pointers made, with eight such shots splashed in last night. I think this era of increased three-point gunning has desensitized me to three-pointers, because eight doesn’t even seem like that many for a player like Mills, who is known as a three-point shooter. Am I broken forever? How many three-pointers would it take to get me to feel something? Fifteen? Twenty? I don’t know, and I’m afraid to find out.

Mills is at the age (32) where you would maybe expect him to start declining, but you have to remember, he’s never been a heavy minutes guy. He didn’t average over 20 MPG per game until his seventh season. There’s a lot of life left in those Aussie legs of his. And if his role is reduced to strictly being a three-point specialist, that should lower the mileage on his legs even more. He could still be splashing threes for the Spurs at age forty, as far as I’m concerned. He’s been with the Spurs for a decade now, why not try for two decades? He might even be at the point where he can get pity contracts indefinitely like Udonis Haslem. That’s the sort of guaranteed income stream that is rare in sports.

This is also a good time to remember all Australians out there of their constitutionally-mandated requirement to watch at least one (1) NBA highlight video of an Australia-born player every day. This Patty Mills video will help you meet that requirement. And if you decide to ignore that requirement, you do so at your own peril. The notorious Outback Wallaby Gulag is always looking for more victims, er, I mean “inmates”.
