New plan to ensure the individual success of Marvin Bagley: run pick-and-rolls with him nonstop until the defense figures it out. That’s what the Kings did this game, and the Bulls never really figured it out, so they just kept going back to it as Bagley racked up the points. Doing the same thing over and over might not be very fun, but Bagley’s post moves and his jumpshot are a work in progress, so if this is the way that he’s going to consistently score points, then you’ve just gotta keep running it. Reward him for his diligence every once in a while by allowing him to shoot a jumper or two.
Secondary aspect of the plan to ensure the individual success of Marvin Bagley: trade Jabari Parker AND Nemanja Bjelica to the Bucks. It’s obvious that Bagley is playing nervous because he’s afraid that Parker and Bjelica will take his minutes. Some players thrive in those pressure-cooker situations where another player on the roster is gunning for their minutes, but not so with the young Bagley. He just needs a chill atmosphere with no looming threats in order to play up to his full potential. Considering that the Kings should definitely be looking to build around Bagley, they should take the first decent-looking deal that gets Parker and Bjelica off the roster, and that deal is, according to my insider sources, D.J. Wilson, Thon Maker, and a 2046 top-89 protected third round pick for Parker and Bjelica.
In 2046, the NBA draft will be expanded to three rounds to account for the increased roster size and the ten new expansion teams, in case you were wondering.
This is a great deal for both teams and I don’t see why it hasn’t gone through already. If anybody in the Kings’ front office is making a stink about Thon Maker not technically being on the Bucks anymore, maybe somebody should remind them that Kevin Garnett is 100% sure that Thon Maker will have an MVP award under his belt when all is said and done. Also, D.J. Wilson is so bad at basketball that Bagley won’t be threatened by him, so that’s a plus as well.
