Ever since Aaron Brooks left Houston, I’ve been of the opinion that the Rockets needed to get another Brooks on the roster, preferably a Brooks who plays one of the two guard positions, and preferably a Brooks who can shoot threes, and preferably a Brooks whose first name starts with the “Ar” syllable or a syllable like it. For a long time now, I’ve felt that this omission from the Rockets’ lineup is lowkey one of the things preventing them from getting some championship hardware to put on the shelf. True, Aaron Brooks never led the Rockets to a championship, but do you see the Rockets winning any championships now that he’s gone? No. No you do not. I rest my case.

Well now the Rockets have got their man. And that man’s name is Armoni Brooks. He’s only played five games for the Rockets, but I can already tell that he’s going to be a long-term fixture for them, not necessarily as a starter, but just as a reliable shooter either starting or coming off the bench. Note that I may have said similar things in the past about Troy Williams, but I was being funny then and not serious. Troy Williams is a joke. Armoni Brooks is not a joke. He’s probably cousins with Devin Armani Booker. That’s how much of a not-joke he is right now.

Earlier this season, the Rockets were struggling to adapt their preferred play style to a roster that wasn’t particularly good at shooting threes. Well, Armoni Brooks does a significant amount to ameliorate that concern. Add in KOCC (Kelly Olynyk Contract Chaser), an uninjured Christian Wood, and the specter of James Harden floating around the locker room slapping players with his naked ghost moobs, and maybe the Rockets can keep running an offense that constantly guns for three-pointers. Hopefully Brooks can get used to getting poked in the eyeball with the apparition of a hairy man-nipple.
