Wow, I didn’t realize how bad P.J. Tucker is at scoring (cue Suns fans crying into their whiskey). At 8.8 per 36, he’s worse at putting the ball in the hole than basically (correction: literally) everybody who gets big minutes. He’s worse than Justise Winslow. He’s not worse than Tayshaun Prince, since no rotation player is worse than Tayshaun is at scoring, but still. It’s so bad. Turns out I have been fooling you guys with all these highlights of him scoring 20 or more. In fact, I have been fooling myself, since I am so surprised by his ineptitude in the domain of bucket-acquisition. I guess I just blocked out of mind all those games where he played 30+ minutes and scored in the low single-digits.
Maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on Tucker. After all, his role is not to score. His role is to provide intangibles and defense and grit and toughness and all that stuff. Sprinkle in a few corner threes and some layups, and you have yourself a good modern NBA player.
