The much-anticipated (by our Antipodean friends) Andrew Bogut-Steven Adams matchup has not been as compelling as was hoped. Adams has done his part; his gritty play and resilience in the face (foot) of intense hardship has endeared himself to NBA fans everywhere. Bogut? He hasn’t done much of anything. He gets to start, and then he disappears for most of the rest of the game, only making spot appearances.
In light of this, I was all set to crown New Zealand the second best country in Oceania (after the Marshall Islands).
Now the tables have turned: Bogut finally had a good game, his best game of the playoffs by far. It’s not enough to declare Australia the second best country in Oceania, but if he scores, like, 12 points next game while Adams scores 2 or something, that will probably tip the scales in the Aussie’s favor.
I know Aussies and Kiwis aren’t as fervent about their respective national identities, as, say, citizens of former Yugoslavian nations, but if we could get a good old-fashioned flamewar going that would be great. Remember: Aussies are gas-sniffing abo bogans, and Kiwis are jafa poms whose wives look like dudes.
