One of the saddest things about this year’s draft was Deyonta Davis sitting there sadly as team after team passed on him. He was projected to be a reasonably high first-rounder, and as the night grew longer, so too did his face. Seemed like after every pick, after the producers got done showing who was actually selected, they would cut to a shot of him looking really sad. Him and Skal Labissiere.
It was probably even sadder than that Isaiah Austin thing from the year previous.
Anyway, after all that draft night morosity I kind of forgot about him, and now I know why: he was injured for all of preseason and summer league. Man, it just keeps getting worse and worse for poor Deyonta, doesn’t it?
Not so fast! He has officially played in an NBA sanctioned contest for more than a tiny bit, and the results are encouraging. 17 points for a dude in his situation is a lot, I think. Sure, the Timberwolves weren’t really interested in stopping him from just dunking it over and over again, but can we blame him for taking the stuff that was offered to him? No. We can’t. 17 points in the NBA is 17 points in the NBA.
