Did we ever figure out if Bismack Biyombo was actually the age he said he was when he was drafted? Because I remember there were some murmurings that he wasn’t actually 18 during that Nike showcase game or whatever where he blocked a ton of shots. Maybe he was 19. Or 20! I think the rule is, that if you were born in Africa, people will never stop speculating on your real age. Ever. Sad, but when you have cases like half of the Nigerian under-17 soccer team failing an MRI age test, it casts a shadow on all the legitimate sportspeople.
At this point, it doesn’t really matter whether he’s 26 or 30. He is what he is, a defense-minded center who can sometimes dunk it and sometimes not. In a few more years, sooner rather than later, he will be out of the league, and it won’t matter if he theoretically has some more “prime” years left.
Though, if he keeps up his recent inspired play with the Hornets, maybe he can stick around for a good chunk of time. Teams always like guys who play defense at the center position, even if they are a signifcant hindrance on offense. Someone like Dikembe Mutombo played way past the point of offensive usefulness simply because he could defend. Then again, there were rumors with him as well that he was like 50 by the time he retired.
