Just out of curiosity, I went back and looked at what I wrote about Fred VanVleet in the first ever vid I made for him, a 10-point (wow, where were my standards) performance in January of 2017. Nothing really juicy, what would’ve been great is if I accurately predicted that he would in the future receive a vote for Finals MVP (thanks Hubie!) or that he would absolutely crush the Bucks in the ECF. I could still go back and edit it to say those things, and no one would ever know, but I couldn’t live with myself if I did that. Here’s some limited excerpts of what I did have to say:
“Cross another one off the list. I can rest easy knowing that if I died tomorrow, the DTB Highlights Archivium would contain within its storied walls a VHS tape showing Fred VanVleet scoring points in an NBA game.”
I shouldn’t have worried so much about crossing VanVleet off a list (he turned out to be pretty good, no concession highlight vids required), or dying tomorrow.
“You cannot blame me for falling under the spell of Vleetsanity. This is a guy who doesn’t look at all like he should be in the NBA, but here he is, scoring double digits in way less time than it has taken Bruno Caboclo.”
I give myself a lot of credit for coming up with “Vleetsanity” even if I don’t think many other people are using it. The ECF this year was full of Vleetsanity, and this game was full of Vleetsanity. LeBron James just could not handle all the Vleeting that was going on tonight.
