Steve Nash 19 Points/5 Assists/1 40th Birthday Full Highlights (2/7/2014)

The two men sat across the table from one another. The older was wearing a long white gown, matching his long white hair and beard. He observed a pocket watch held in his hand. The younger was donning a modern outfit of purple and orange, adorned with numerals. The younger spoke.

“I would like to be granted an extension.”

The elder put down the watch, raised his eyebrows, and smiled a knowing smile. “An extension? As you know, Steve, I do not give extensions freely.”

“I feel like I have a lot to still offer the NBA. As you know, I have not won a championship. This is the deepest desire of my heart. I know that I can accomplish this task. I just need more time.”

“Time, yes. What could you all do if you just had more time. I have given extensions to some of your compatriots. Jason Kidd comes to mind. He wasted it. Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Garnett, Kurt Thomas. These and countless others, wasting the extra time I granted them. I see no reason why you should be different.”

“Please, Father, I urge you to reconsider. The Lakers of Los Angeles have offered me a position. This is my chance. Please.”

“If you insist. Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant are a championship quality tandem, I must admit. But, should you fail, there will be repercussions.”

“And what might those be?”

“Should you fail, I will take what little strength remains in your back, rendering you a helpless and infirm retiree before you hit even 45. Father Time does not give his gifts freely.”
