Ray Allen is 38 years old and can still get up there to dunk. In contrast, I’m in the prime of my life and I get excited if my fingers graze the net. It would be fair to ask, “What did I do in a past life for God to punish me so?” But let’s reformulate that question: what did Ray Allen do in a past life for God to reward him so?
-Saved an orphan from a roving pack of zoo animals
-Put out a house fire using an improvised fire hose made out of a drinking straw
-Donated blood twice yearly and didn’t complain about it
-Saw a penny on the ground and gave it to a child (back when pennies were actually worth something)
-Didn’t swear when he stubbed his toe on a rock
I can say for sure that my past self would not have done any of those things. So, of course, it is fair that I am unable to dunk and Ray Allen can dunk forcefully even in his old age.
