It appears that the “play Giannis at the points oh man next Magic Johnson” movement has lost most of its momentum. The preseason game where it was attempted was a disaster, featuring a bunch of turnovers and not much else.
It makes a lot more sense to let Giannis’ unique skills create a matchup problem at small forward than to shoehorn him into a position where his ball-handling and play-making would actually be below average.
That’s easy to say in hindsight, without the incredible glare of a 6’11” idealized point-center who can run the offense, shoot threes, do work in the post, defend, rebound, and cure cancer.
