At one point, though it has mostly died down, there was a lot of hype for the “Giannis Antetokounmpo as a point guard” concept. He represents a departure from the NBA of old, a utopist future of “positionless basketball”.
I don’t see why Isaiah Thomas can’t be part of that future too. The Suns have too many point guards, that much we all know. What if we could change one of them into something else? What if Isaiah Thomas was a small forward?
I know what you’re thinking: and I agree, there’s only like a 25 percent chance of this working out. But if it does, look out rest of the league. He’s already got the “small” part down. That’s half the battle. He doesn’t have exactly the skillset of a small forward, but his shooting, passing, and most importantly his speed would cause a real matchup problem on offense. He might give up some size on D, but he does that under normal circumstances so I don’t see it as a deal-breaker.
This is a good idea. I have no idea why I haven’t been hired by a front-office yet.
