Darrell Griffith 40 Points/3 Dunks Full Highlights (3/9/1985)

Just going to put it out there: these are some hella sick highlights. In my earlier, unenlightened years, I was vaguely aware of some guy named Griffith who was athletic and kind of an okay player. I hadn’t seen any highlights of him, and when I say “vaguely aware”, I mean “probably confused him with David Thompson somewhere along the line”. Connoisseurs of dunk contests past will say “Come on DTB, you don’t know about the Golden Griff, Dr. Dunkenstein, Mr. Darrell Griffith? How can I ever trust your basketball insights again?”

Well, I know about him now. Don’t let basketball-reference’s career comparison of CJ Watson (who also scored 40 once upon a time, holy crap) mislead you. Dr. Dunkenstein was a dynamic and exciting player, maybe not the best distributor, but a guy who could get the crowd fired up with roof-grazing dunks and roof-grazing jumpers. As one of the commentators opines during the video, he would have been better known and more beloved had he played in a large market like Chicago.

Some things never change.
