As much as I’m going to miss Alonzo Gee being around to dunk basketballs/play defense sometimes/not have a jumper, I don’t blame the Pelicans at all for choosing Lance Stephenson over him. Lance Stephenson was once the second-best(?) player on a team that made a conference finals. The last time Alonzo Gee was the second best player on a team, he was playing Rocket League as a Prospect II. Stephenson has the potential to be a key piece, even if it is rather unlikely that he becomes one. Gee never had the potential to be a key piece unless you consider a scrub getting DNP-CD’s to be a necessary component of a good team.
We’ve seen what happens when Stephenson gets to run the show. It can be bad. It can be good. Usually it’s bad. But with Tim Frazier being the only available PG on the team, we’re going to see a lot of Stephenson running the show in the immediate future, and it doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad. It has to happen. The Pelicans have no choice but to allow it to happen.
It just occurred to me that Tyreke Evans will come back at some point. Evans and Stephenson are basically the same player. Will they fight? I bet they’ll fight. Should I start selling tickets to this fight in advance? Yes. Only ten bucks too. Come get them before they’re sold out.
