Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 17 Points/3 Dunks Full Highlights (1/21/2017)

Before I go all out and call Michael Kidd-Gilchrist a bust (one of my absolute most favorite pastimes), let’s clear something up: MKG is a good role player. Maybe even a great role player. The Hornets are significantly better when he is on the court. He might not ever score fifteen points per game, and he certainly won’t ever have a consistent three-point shot with the way he swings his elbows all over the place when shooting, but he can at least be a valued contributor to be a good team.

All that said, this dude is a bust until he proves me wrong. With the #2 pick you’re looking for a stud. Not just a role-player stud, but an All-Star stud and a go-to scorer. Unfortunately for the Hornets, their options were limited if they wanted to draft non-busts at their draft spot in 2012: Beal, Lillard, Drummond, and maybe Barnes would not have been busts, everybody else would have been a one-way ticket to bust town on the bust bus. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist punched their ticket and the whole Hornets front-office got right on that bus.

Just because this isn’t an Anthony Bennett or LaRue Martin or Hasheem Thabeet situation does not mean that MKG is not a bust. Marvin Williams is a bust too and he’s had a great career as a role-player. So is Evan Turner. And Michael Beasley. These guys can all contribute in their own ways but they’re never going to elevate a franchise by themselves. Given how high they were picked, that makes them all busts. Sorry Hornets fans.
