This is the next frightening stage of Davis Bertans’ metamorphosis: he can now shoot step-back threes as well as pull-ups off the dribble. No longer does he need to stand stationary in one spot and wait for the ball to get passed to him; he can now receive the ball wherever he happens to be and then dribble to the spot where he wants to shoot it. If he wants to shoot an elbow jumper from seventeen feet out, he can just dribble there, as he did in this video.
Maybe it’s a fluke. Maybe he’ll never show off this skill again. However, if Bertans does turn into an uglier, but taller, Kyle Korver, watch out league. Pop will have no choice but to play him big minutes and when Pau Gasol gets back from hurting his wimpy little hand, there won’t be a place in the rotation for him because Bertans will be getting all the minutes. LaMarcus Aldridge will just have to deal with playing center because his feelings aren’t important when your goal is to have Bertans play his most effective position, power forward.
Hopefully Bertans cools off a little bit. Otherwise I feel like I would have to figure out where on my keyboard the “a with a bar over the top of it” button is, or what magical combination of keys I need to press like a cheat code in order to get one of those weird a’s on my screen. Here’s DTB’s internetip of the day: if you need one of those weird foreign letters, just search it on google and then copy and paste the title of the Wikipedia article that comes up.
