Marcin Gortat’s minutes are up this year, but his scoring is down. Way down. His rebounds increased with his minutes, but his shot attempts did not. What’s the deal? That’s not how things are supposed to work. More minutes = more buckets. I’d consider that truism to be a fundamental part of basketball. Without it, you’d have people scoring 50 points in 5 minutes and 2 points in 200 minutes. Gortat can’t just go and mess the system up like he’s doing.
I don’t feel like doing some actual research, what, do I look like Zach Lowe to you? So I’m just go ahead and conjecture that John Wall is freezing The Polish Hammer out of the offense. No evidence, no facts, no nothing to back that assertion up except I need a reason for Gortat’s diminished point totals, and that’s the first one I came up with.
It is also possible that Trey Burke is the one freezing Gortat out of the offense instead of John Wall doing so. Maybe that makes more sense. Wall is a known passer; I think Burke would be happiest being the only guy on the court for his team.
