Man, Hubie Brown was going IN on Brandon Ingram tonight. Aren’t these national commentators supposed to be as positive and nurturing as possible when it comes to underperforming players? I couldn’t believe my ears, some of the things I was hearing. I was expecting stuff like “he’s young, but give the guy some credit, you can see the talent is there” and “there ya go, it’s great to see that!” and “once they get this guy going, they’re going to be a special team”. Those are typical earnest Hubie Brown lines, not the sarcasm he was spewing tonight.
Granted, Ingram has been fairly disappointing, disappointing to the point where it’s the defining feature of his season right now. Yeah, he’s shown flashes, but that’s all they are, maybe a complete game here or there, but mostly just random blips of competence. Wow, now I’m the one sounding all nasty. That’s my bad. Here, let’s have some positivity: when his shot goes in, it looks really good. Surprisingly, you can’t say that about every player.
