Prior to this year, I’d never been much of a Ricky Rubio highlighter. There was too much general hype around him for me to be interested. Something happened, though, and the Rubio-hype is at an all-time low. So low that people were, prior to the season starting, ready to ship him out of Minnesota so that Kris Dunn could get all the PG minutes.
I don’t think that would’ve turned out so good, but you never know.
Now the highlights are coming thick and fast. It seems like every other game he’s reaching my (admittedly low) thresholds of 10 points and 10 assists. He was doing that in years past, but I didn’t care then. I care now. Rubio is quickly becoming one of my fave PGs. Mostly because he doesn’t score too much. Scoring PGs are so common around the league that seeing one of an actual pass-first variety is refreshing. Same reason I like Tim Frazier so much.
