When the Pistons were rumored to be interested in a Reggie Jackson/Jeff Green swap with the Magic, I immediately thought to myself, “Why would the Pistons want to ruin Tobias Harris’ career MORE THAN THEY ALREADY HAVE by trading for another small forward?” They must have decided that the benefit of getting rid of team cancer/team meeting target Reggie Jackson was not worth the cost of taking an old Marcus Morris clone in Jeff Green.
However, just because the Pistons failed to take a step towards further disenfranchising Tobias, that doesn’t mean that his current situation is ideal. He got 37 minutes this game but recently his minutes totals have only been in the twenties because he’s really just a small forward and Marcus Morris is taking all his minutes. If the Pistons wanted to fix their roster they wouldn’t trade for another small forward, they would trade AWAY one of their small forwards in exchange for, I don’t know, maybe a backup center or something (sorry Baynes you suck). But the trade deadline has come and gone and both dudes are still on the team so if Tobes is gonna make it to the Bucks sometime this season, he’s gonna have to figure out a way to get the Pistons to waive him. I’m thinking another players-only meeting, but this time, instead of talking with his mouth, Tobes lets his fists do the talking.
It’s the only way.
