The crappy thing about the Celtics being this good is that they don’t get to properly develop (read: forcefeed minutes to regardless of actual ability) their young talent. Jaylen Brown is receiving decent minutes considering his production, but we will never know what kind of shenanigans he would’ve gotten up to if he was given carte blanche to shoot and 35 minutes per game. Looking at the one game where he did get that many minutes, I’m thinking 20 points per? Maybe that’s being optimistic.
You could argue that he benefits more from being a role-player for a championship contender then he does from mindlessly chucking on a bad team. Okay. Yeah. Pffft.
This problem is only going to get worse for the Celtics, as they have tons of picks in the upcoming drafts. There are only so many Euro draft-and-stash guys you can draft before some of them actually want to play for the team. Remember Guerschon Yabusele? He’s gonna be pissed if he doesn’t get to play for the Celtics next year, and they might have to cut James Young (horrors!) to do it. How does that guy even still have a roster spot?
