Maurice Ndour has had a strange path to the NBA. You’re probably already aware, so I’ll give you the abridged version: born in Senegal, played high school ball in Japan, played two years of college ball at some weird for-profit institution, then transferred to Ohio University, and finally played in Spain for a bit. And now he’s on the Knicks! Always follow your dreams, even if your dreams tell you to go globetrotting.
The thing I wonder is if any of his Japanese classmates had ever seen a real-life black person before. And how good are the chances that one of them licked his skin to see if it was really made of chocolate? Just wondering. Those crazy Japanese, you know. Someone should make an anime out of Ndour’s time there. I’d watch it, except I wouldn’t because I’m not a god-damn weeaboo.
Anyway, Ndour hasn’t been very exciting in his time with the Knicks this season. He’s shown flashes, but they’ve been exceedingly brief even by flash standards. This is the first game he’s had where he’s filled up the boxscore, coincidentally also his first NBA start, as the commentators mentioned a gazillion times. Sadly, the season is almost over, so if this games marks a turned corner for him, we aren’t going to get to enjoy it for very long.
