Ricky Rubio 19 Points/5 Assists Full Highlights (4/6/2017)

New strategy for defending Ricky Rubio: since he is now a legitimate threat to hit midrange jumpers when you go under on his screens, why not go OVER the screen and make him drive it to the rack? He’s never been able to finish through any kind of contact. In fact, he’s never been able to finish even if there’s no contact. He just can’t make layups. If you make him take layups then you’ve again reduced him to a “pass only” point guard, which is a lot easier to deal with than the “pass a lot and score sometimes” point guard which he has become.

Maybe there’s an advanced X’s and O’s reason why my bold new strategy wouldn’t work. I’m not a coach. It takes me about fifty times seeing the same play before I realize that it’s actually the same play being run over and over and not just the random movement of players. But it seems like, if Rubio is going to destroy you with jumpers (and his beautiful, deep brown Spanish sexy eyes), you should take that away from him and make him do something else. If the result is him getting sixteen assists but going 2-of-13 from the field, you could live with that.
