Ben Simmons needs to average a triple-double this season. He’s not even far off the pace right now, only a few assists shy. Points and rebounds are the simple part; just spam shots and abandon playing defense in order to grab boards and you can get 10 of each easily. Assists, though, are pretty tough. Simmons, if he wants to average 10 of those per game, will start needing to be a little more ball dominant. As in, no more Jerryd Bayless touching the ball unless he’s shooting it off a pass from Simmons. Same goes for T.J. McConnell. Yes, I know it’s sad, but sacrifices must sometimes be made in the name of semi-arbitrary statistical goals.
This plan will probably result in fewer wins for the 76ers, but that’s okay. Playoffs aren’t the most important thing right now. Triple-doubles are the most important thing right now. I don’t feel like it’s even that hard of a thing to do. Simmons had what felt like a meh game and still was only 3 rebounds and 1 dime short. He can do this every night, just gotta demand that ball from Embiid a couple extra times a game.
