Tyreke Evans is playing the best basketball of his life right now. Here, in the 9th year of his career. He’s not quite the distributor that he once was forced to be, but his vastly improved scoring makes up for it. He’s setting a career high in both efficiency and volume. I didn’t expect this at all from him, I thought he was doomed to be a low-level role player for the rest of his career.
Despite his greatness, the Grizzlies keep losing games. 2 wins in the last 15 games after that strong start. Losing Mike Conley hurt, but his impact has largely been covered for by Evans sudden competency. So what’s the deal? Has the grit and grind mojo finally worn off?
Usually I would recommend that the Grizzlies funnel even more of their offense through Evans to try and remedy their problems. Not tonight though. I don’t think he could take much more usage. Instead, I will suggest that the Grizzlies hire me as head coach so that I can implement all the sweet plays I’ve been coming up with over the years. I don’t want to spoil anything, because that would directly hurt my job prospects, but lots of dunking is involved.
