Mike James recently became the first graduate of the NBA’s new two-way contract system. His allotted 45 days in the big-boy league were coming due, and the Suns had to either make room for him on their real roster or leave him to rot in the D-League for the rest of the season (I hope I’m explaining this right, contracts of any sort make my head hurt). They made the right choice, I think, though they had to cut DTB-favorite Derrick Jones Jr. to do it.
I don’t even know why Airplane Mode wasn’t getting playing time. Yeah, he sucked at actually playing basketball, but so does -name redacted-, and he gets to stay on the team no questions asked.
James rewarded the Suns’ confidence in him by scoring 25 points tonight and not even making it seem like that big of a deal. If -name redacted- scored 25 points in a game, everyone would freak out endlessly, but with James, it’s just another day at the office. Almost Devin Booker-like, really.
