When you see Doug McDermott highlights, what kind of shots do you expect are contained therein? Don’t answer dunks. If you answered dunks, either you’ve never seen him play or you saw one highlight of him dunking and got really confused. However, if you answered layups, you’d be wrong, but also right, because this video has a ton of layups! Just way too many!
It’s not McDermott’s fault that Kyle O’Quinn is a gifted passer on the level of Nikola Jokic, and is able to find him whenever he cuts to the basket. What is McDermott’s fault is that he didn’t demand the ball and chuck 10 threes. That is totally on him. No one else is able to shoot threes have them count for points under the name “Doug McDermott”. He has to do that on his own.
Optimistic Knicks fans may take this as a sign that he’s expanding his game, but when I think “expanding game” and McDermott, I think about him shooting threes from 40 feet away. Dinky little layups just cannot compete with these fantasies.
